In the syllabi, the objectives and goals for each subject are defined. The goals to attain in grade 9 express the minimum level required for the Pass (G) grade. The syllabi also define the criteria for the grades Pass with Distinction (VG) and Pass with Great Distinction (MVG).
The national goals defined in the syllabi are worded in an “open” way, forcing each school/municipality to determine local interpretations and clarifications to ensure that the goals can be applied to the activities in an equivalent way.
The syllabi express what the students should learn. However they provide great scope for the teachers and students to choose their own materials and working methods to enable the students to attain the goals specified in the respective syllabi.
